The Dudhwa National Park is a national park in the Terai belt of marshy forest in northern Uttar Pradesh, India. It stretches over an area of490.3 km2, with a buffer zone of 190 km2. It’s one part of the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in the Kheri and Lakhimpur districts. It represents one of the many remaining covered areas of the different and productive Terai ecosystem, supporting numerous adventured species, obligate species of altitudinous wet grasslands and species of defined distribution.
This region comes under the sub Himalayan area called as Terai belt. This Terai region is allowed as the most exposed ecosystems throughout the world. The park is also lying hard the Indo-Nepal boundary having together the two most alluring sanctuaries of the region called, Katerniaghat and Kishanpur wildlife sanctuaries to embody the beautiful greenery and timber area across the Terai region.
Another reserve area “ Kishunpur Pashu Vihar” sanctuary located about 30 KM fromDudwa.Spread over about 204sqr.km., it lies on the banks of swash Sharda and is circled by Sal wood of adjoining reserve timbers.
In 1987 Dudwa National Park and Kishunpur Pashu Vihar was combined to form Dudwa Tiger Reserve (DTR). The Dudwa Tiger Reserve has total area of 818 sqr KM. It’s home to a large number of rare and exposed species which includes Tiger, Leopard cat, Slath beer, rinosaurs (One horn), Hispid hare, Elephants, Black deer & Swamp deer etc.
